The Editor - Steven Rowley

The Editor - Steven Rowley

Wow. What can I say? I absolutely adored this charming, poignant, richly imaginative, and wonderful novel. ⁣ ⁣

The Editor tells the story of James Smale as he sells his debut novel to a major publisher in 90s New York City. Throughout the novel, James develops a close working relationship with his editor, who is none other than Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis, as she helps him develop his promising manuscript and heal in ways he never expected.

⁣From the very first pages I was drawn right into the action by Rowley’s engaging and humorous prose - I felt as though I was there in the room with James, who is an incredibly likable protagonist. It is the relationship between Mrs. Onassis (as James refers to her) and her young protégé that is entirely fascinating - not just because she is one of the defining figures of American history, but because it is so well developed and richly drawn. When the duo wasn’t on the page together, I longed for them to return. Mrs. Onassis serves as a guide for James on a necessary journey he must take to complete his novel and imbue it with true meaning. I shan’t say any more than that, as I wouldn’t want to ruin what is truly a charming tale of love, loss, fear, family, forgiveness, and redemption.⁣⁣

⁣Thank you, @mrstevenrowley. Your novel made my weekend and will stay with me for a long time to come.
